Cabins all gone!

We just this evening got a phone call from Cattail reporting the cabins are completely gone!

Some Earlier Recycling Shots

These are some shots from Labor Day; showing the recycling results. Danny Hensley took all the interior furnishings, and Jerry McCurry took all the windows, all the tin from the roof, all the wiring, and a lot of wood beams. Kept all that stuff out of the landfill.

Out with the old...

Here are photos that Randy sent this afternoon of the demolition in progress. Notice that Cabin 1 is completely gone, as are all the trees along the front.

The Plans

Here's a look at the front of the new house. The roof will be green metal. The siding will be board and batten. The foundation will be covered with stone.









These first floor plans have changed a little bit. There will be a regular door into the garage which means that the wall between the garage and the laundry room has moved into the laundry room a bit.

Heading to Cattail over Labor day

Our house in North Manchester is filling up with neatly packed boxes-- lots of things we don't need until we get moved into the new house. So we've decided to make a quick trip over the holiday weekend to store them in Burnsville. We'll leave after school Friday and drive halfway. Saturday we'll unload our boxes at the storage unit, drop off our rental trailer in Micaville, then relax at the Colonial until dinner and "Pride and Prejudice" at the Parkway Playhouse. Sunday we'll hike from Twin Falls up to Deep Gap and back. We'll probably cool off with a swim at the bathtub afterwards. For sure we'll post photos of what we find at the cabins. Monday we'll head home.

Meeting with Builders

We met with two builders today, on the site. Each have their advantages and each have their disadvantages, but we'd be happy with either and both would build a nice, tasteful, energy efficient home. One is from Burnsville and the other is from Asheville. Above is a picture of a house we showed them up the north fork of Cattail Creek, by the second bridge - this is the view facing the creek. They both thought they could design a house around that concept. The Burnsville people would do a custom design for us as part of the process.

Below is a fall picture just for the random historical collection of the cabins.

We have an appointment with the builder next month. Construction could begin as early as Nov. 2010.
